Add to that advanced networking features, the full Windows Media Center experience for using your computer to record TV shows, and you have an operating system that does so much more than XP or any other edition of Vista, right out of the box.Vista Ultimate isn't perfect. In fact, I'm not sure I want to risk upgrading to Windows 7 before they release the first Service Pack (SP1) for Windows 7. I know this because Vista Ultimate includes a Reliability Monitor, to record every time there's a problem with the system, to help you diagnose issues. Bitlocker -- not available in Home Premium -- protects your personal files in case your computer is lost or stolen. Bitlocker works perfectly and is easy to set up. Vista is by far the easiest and most stable version of Windows to date. But upgrading from XP, to Vista, and then to Windows 7 SP1 makes a lot of sense.I have used Windows since 1991.
I have been using Vista for 18 months. It has crashed exactly three times, and two of those were power failures. I have enjoyed Vista tremendously in the year and a half that I've used it. But the question is -- do you need the Ultimate edition.Vista Ultimate includes a number of features that make your computer more powerful. The Windows Backup feature is a 2 step process - set it and forget it, and with Ultimate you can even backup over a network to a remote disk. No one but you can read the files on the disk, because Bitlocker encrypts your entire disk. and that's about it. There are a few games, some system sounds.
In any event, I wouldn't want to upgrade from XP to 7 directly -- it's a hassle. The biggest problem with this release is the Ultimate Extras program. Windows XP was nowhere near as reliable as Vista, and XP has far fewer features. The upgrade to Vista is totally worth it. Microsoft promised to deliver special upgrades available only to Ultimate users. If you're thinking of going for the Ultimate just for these Extras, then think again and get Home Premium or Business.
The product was as advertised and shipped quickly. Was a great value for the money.
I installed Vista Ultimate and it really sped up my computer's boot time. I read the negative reviews of Windows Vista and was skeptical about using it. I was using Windows XP Pro and it was running really slow on my Lenovo laptop. I'm not sure why, as I am not a computer guy, but that it did is indisputable. I've been using it regularly for a couple of months now with no problems.
The discription on the Box is very misleading about UPGRADING. It won't UPGRADE from Vista Premium to Ultamate as advertized.
I was trying to upgrade on a HP PAVILION m9515y PC with VISTA PREMIUM TO ULTAMATE. I had to return the product.
It only does a Ultamate Complete INSTALL. After installing it, it wiped out all of the Programs & Software that HP had put in the machine.
I tryed installing it each way possiable, but could not keep any of the HP Installed Programs/Software. So I had to go back and do a Factory Restore to Premium with the Restore Disk's I made with the machine originally.
Amazon did refund my money, even though the product was opened.
My new Dell XPS i7-920 processer has Vista Home Premium and I need to upgrade to Ultimate. I have tried 3 times to install and receive the message after it tries to finish the install of "Windows could not configure 1 or more system components. Restart computer and then restart the installation" BUT, still does not work. So, can not rate product however site requires min one star.
